This is a newsletter where you get three perception-altering ideas every Saturday that help you become a better person.
And these insights don’t come from random “deep quotes” searches on the Web, mind you, but from (mostly) books, podcasts, articles, videos. And I share only what I find helpful. So, please share with your loved ones, if you find this stuff valuable.
Here are this week’s insights:
1. Best Time
The best time to have tackled a hard problem was a long time ago; the second best time is now.
Sometimes, we—at least I—give up something because we did not do it on time. ‘What use doing it now? It’s over.’ We do it, knowingly or unknowingly.
No. You can still do it. It’s not too late—in most cases.
There is a zen parable that goes like this:
‘I am seventy already,’ said Duke Ping of Tsin. ‘Though I want very much to study and read some books, I feel it is too late.’
‘But why not light the candle?’ suggested Shih Kuang, his blind musician.
‘How dare a subject joke with his master?’ cried the duke.
‘A blind musician, I dare not!’ said Shih Kuang. ‘But I have heard that if you’re fond of study in youth, your future is as bright as the morning sun. Applying yourself to study in middle age is like the noon-day sun. While beginning in old age is like a candle’s flame. Though a candle is not very bright, at least it is better than groping in the dark.’

2. Make A Habit
How can you trust that you’ll step forward when the stakes are high when you regularly don’t do that even when the stakes are low?
So we must test ourselves. We make courage a habit.
It’s not true for courage only.
For other things too, if you cannot act right when it matters less, you won’t when it does matter.
As famous self-help guys say, if you can’t manage money when you have less of it, you won’t be able to when, and if, you get a lot of it.
3. Fool’s World
A fool knows everything about the world.
Because their world is small. And because they have limited their capacities.
So they can see only so far, and only so much.
